Decided that I needed to fish today as it was beautiful outside and was hopeful the ice on Simcoe was mostly gone at Jackson's Point. Strong winds last week should have done some damage. With a 15km north wind I thought there might be some ice blown up in the shore and I was right. I met up with Xialou at 1pm to do some afternoon fishing. The water was nice and calm, no waves but past the break wall I could see ice.... and lots of it as far as I could see. "I dont care, i'm here I am going for a paddle and hopefully I'll catch a fish".... OUTCOME: ZERO fish caught, saw a dead 5lb+ bass on the bottom and lots of dead pan fish in the shallows. We acted as an ice breaker also.
People fishing from shore also caught zero fish.
The water is 38*F there is ice 50ft from the break wall and some of it is still 6" thich and strong ice.
Here are some photo's.

Sitting in 15' of water on the ice edge. There was some very soft ice and then got thick.

Testing out the new fishfinder. I am looking for advice on my Elite 5HDI settings. Could not see my lure in any depth of water today. Also as you can see in the picture the bottom did not show straight but looks bumpy and patchy.

- I have my transducer in the hull...Do you think that may effect the Downscan Image. When I switched to it, dont have a photo but it showed the bottom at the top of the screen and was no consistent with the fish graph image. Any advice.

Lots of ice.

Basically we washed some small plastic baits and went for a paddle.

Nice try. At least, it was a beauty day to be outside. As every body says still too early. We need some warm days strung together.

Nice report Evan. It was nice to have met and 'fished' with you yesterday. It was a beautiful day with no wind on the water, and I enjoyed some good paddling, for sure, though the fish didn't cooperate (wait, there were no fish at all!:-)

And as usual, some photos from me:

Great report. It makes me cold just looking at all that ice!

They should be biting soon.

Great pictures guys, not very often you see Simcoe that calm. Too bad the fish did not co-operate with you, would have made it a great day if they did.

I think it is still too cold. Perhaps we'd need to wait for another TWO (2) weeks I say;-)

Never to cold for perch James

What happens is the perch will stay under the ice as long as they can.
