I showed at the farm on Friday to put cameras up, which I did. While talking with farmer I mentioned that the turkey numbers are down from 10 years ago. Farmer than says well we bought a new farm that has way more birds than what I used to see at old farm. So I ask if I can hunt there and he says yes so go check out quickly. I was back yesterday to get a spot to set up, while I was admiring my work I turn around and there are 2 Toms about 80yds away. they wonder off in other direction, probably saw me. Will be there on opener.
The re-introduction of turkeys was mostly done in southern Ontario and yet we see turkeys in Chisolm, East Ferris and Powassan township every year. WMU 47 and 48.
Maybe you're seeing less because they are migrating north??
Love the successful turkey hunt photos. I used to hunt in WMU 93 when I lived near Sarnia. I do miss it.
I would love to find a farm to hunt on the east of side of Lake Simcoe (hwy 169, hwy 12 corridor) to hunt turkeys and do some perch fishing.

There are a ton of Turkeys in your area. I drive through there all the time.
I would be door knocking if I were you. Good luck on the property hunt as it’s way harder than the actual hunting. ??

I agree with using a single hen decoy or no decoy. and agree that those big strutting Tom decoys can scare more birds then it helps, I have one and watched it scare a flock of 6 jakes off. My area is way down in numbers from what I used to see, but I do see lots of coyotes. went to bush twice today and both times on the way out I saw yotes, just couldn't get the shot off.

I live outside North Bay but I'm considering door knocking in that corridor. Lol
Would love to get permission to hunt the edge of a field in the morning, fish for perch in the afternoon, then camp in a tent on the property somewhere.
Maybe even help the farmer with chores. Have lots of experience.
Anyone know a farmer or widow who could use our help?
