Smelts have small little teeth. They bite and the yarn tangles in their mouth.

World Record Trout Group: Members Posts: 3100 Member No.: 26 Joined: February 10, 2011	Yarn didn’t work so well. 58 FOW too much for them to hang on. But the single trout egg hooks did the trick. Caught about 16 to add to my 4 the other day. I can eat now!

As the new guy my friends dad tricked me into biting the head off one raw, he said it was a tradition when you catch your 1st smelt.... my son caught one last weekend close to long shole, i assumed it was a small herring but now looking at the pictures i can see it was a smelt.
