boys first salmon

took my two boys age 9 and 12 for their first try at river salmon. good day in all we all lost 3 good salmon each but my oldest boy managed to land a 11lb female. i told him it sometimes takes years to learn how to handle these powerful beasts but he did it like a pro. A little help from dad coaching helped him.I was so proud of both of them they handled themselves at the river like seasoned anglers.i wont get out by myself to much anymore. My next task is to get them tying their own roe bags,we went through all we had and had to go to a fly imatation and we still managed a few strikes on the fly.All in all a good day and a proud moment for dad.

Feels great to see the kids do well. When my son was 11, he came on a salmon trip on Lake O. a rigger went off and he was into his first salmon. He fought it and brought it to the net. There were about 8 boats all around watching him and all came on the radio to congratulate him. Felt great. Now if could only let me catch a few, 20 years later.

the nottawasaga river "notty" runs from wasaga beach to hocley valley through Angus and thru Alliston.The most popular spot to fish it is in Angus.

yes Bob it was great watching him hold that big fish in the pool and keep it from running but i sure wish i could have landed one myself you know kids he wont let me live that day down

Just wait, my son hunts and fishes with me when he can get down here from Ottawa area. He likes to try and outdo his old man and sometimes I let him so now I need to go fishing to Cape Cod and BC for sturgeon, but he will try to take that too someday when he has the time to come. Enjoy this time with the kids. We can only hope they will take the time with us once we hit that time of our lives.
