After having a huge sled last year went for a more compact build. Got the second pelican from a member here and painted the smaller lighter frame yesterday. Snug compartment for the heater. Overall very pleased with the way it turned out. Plus if the kids are too tired to walk I can hook the second pelican to the back of the smitty. Now just need ice. Fish finder, rods, chairs etc all fit inside out of the elements. Loads nice in the back of the pick up.

Nice build. Built one myself last year can't believe how much easier it is to get your gear out. The 1 man Fabril flip over was easy to pull on ice however 4-5 inches of snow made it feel like I was dragging a tank.

I'm sure it will pull well. Last one was way higher off the ground and never went in the snow more than an inch or two. My rods all go in a bag I got from princess auto. It's about 3 ft long meant for tools but works well with rods. Spoons and jigs go into a piece of foam I have and then just a small tackle tray for hooks, weights etc. I had an exterior rod holder system last year from PVC but they would get snow and ice on them and I broke a rod tip loading in the truck so went back to the bag.

I use a rod bag too, I also got some golf club tubes from CTC and cut them down to slide over the rods to give them more protection. It also keeps the tangles down if I leave them rigged up. Do the skis make a big difference over just pulling the sled?

Yes loony the skis make all the difference. My sled last year was 72x 40 and I haul a lot of gear and the boy and it glides. The golf tubes are a great idea. I use pool noodles myself. Light-and protective. I do use solid 6ft chimney sweep poles to pull it attached to a belt with carabiners as sometimes it will go faster than me and this keeps it from passing me. Especially on the hills at bear point and 2nd line.

Seriously, are you the only ice angler in Canada that doesn't ride it down the hills? Just ignore the warning stamped on it "This is not a toy" Laughed my a## off when I read that on my brothers. If it isn't a toy, then I don't know what a toy is.

Ok, since no one else is going to bring up the pink lake trout in the room,,,, what the heck is with that monolithic heater? I think my furnace is smaller than that thing

That's a heater, I thought he made an airboat J/K Fishin fan but I will say that I would freeze and leave early before I drag a heater that big around. Chit I think my metal shovel I bring is too heavy. It is a sturdy looking rig, well built

Well the heater is a little large I guess 18x22x12. Not to heavy. Kerosene is way cheaper than propane after my experiment last year and man it kicks out the heat. And it only radiates off the front so it's cool to the touch for the kids On the top and sides and they are my favourite fishing buddies. I got it off kijiji $70. They are over 250 new. I have an even bigger one for emergency heat. They are great heaters. And I like to be comfortable. Hence the smitty makes it pull like a feather.

Well what do you know, you make compelling arguments! I fish with both kids a fair bit so can appreciate the safe to touch areas. Of course, car, sled and pop up are all too tight to have a heater like that be an option for me, but can understand now why you go with it! Thanks for sharing.
