Pinning this topic as promised, thank-you again Thorahguy (Gord) for sharing your collection of historical fishing pics of Lake Simcoe with our community. I will go through this whole thread and update the details for the pics which have new information. Periodically if any members have anything to add or has any information about the images in this thread or have vintages images of their own, please share your knowledge..
Thanks again..
Jerry

Bayliner twisted my arm so here's one more. This is me in 1956. The boat is a 14ft Peterborough Cedar Strip, the kicker a 7.5 HP Elgin built by Chrysler. The combination sold for about $800 in 1956. Thorah Island harbour is in the background. The "light" in those days was a lantern on top of the pyramidal wooden structure.

Thanks dodgeman6497, very interesting piece of history. Was your father related in any way to Jack Mitchell of Beaverton and Thorah Island? Jack was married to Isabel Warren of Thorah Island.

Small world. I'm guessing we'd know some of the same people then.

QUOTE (avengere1 @ November 20, 2011 - 10:56 pm)
hey great pic we called that a flake back east..cod was salted for a few days/weeks and then put in the sun to be cured..spent many days putting the fish out to dry and bringing them back in at sun down or rain moving in..

and trying to keep the cats from dragging it away bit by bit, LOL

been there and done that avenge....
