Was able to get out for another 3 hrs this morning....I got my 10 min plan today (10min drive to boat launch, 10 min. to launch and in the kayak. 10 min. pedal to first spot, 10min in, first fish in the net). Then the next one took about 30 min. after the first....I think I spent like 10 min. to deal with the first one and getting things ready to drop the bait back down (hooks in net, stringer, bleeding out, cleaning up the gore a bit to reduce the chances my kayak becomes bear bait when I bring it back home). Both 20inchers so nice size to eat (tomorrow night). Much chillier this morning than the last 3+ weeks but still a nice sunny day. Working on the 10min. to make each fish boneless, skinless chunks of meat (and without the reddish fattier later line tissue too - about 15 min. right now but I am sure with more practice, I can get it down to 10min .
Now, if I can only get things working more smoothly after getting a fish in the net so I can reduce the time (10 min. would be great) before the bait goes back down....
If the weather permits, I may have 2 hours (max) this Friday to fish again (so maybe I can launch just before the sun actually rises but still with enough light to see well and have A.I.K. (a##-in-kayak) and ready to go at sunrise or a tad before, I can add another 10-15 min. to the fishing day and still be back before 10.
If I didn't live up here and so close to a lake, I would still not be fishing.

...oh, the laker was probably about 18" and very nice colours as well. I didn't even bother getting it out of the water. Lightly hooked and a twist of the hook with the pliers and away it went.

2 whitefish over 3 hours is not bad at all! It's always difficult to minimize tangle in the landing net fishing solo.

Nice whitefish and a great report.
An older friend of mine gave me a rubberized mesh landing net. It eliminates hooks tangled in the mesh.

...and when I didn't land anything, James was there to give me a whitefish. Lots of thanks to James for his help and advice on kayaks as well.

I am using a rubberized mesh net but this time the hook caught on the cloth seam that holds the net together. And the treble hooks of the small vibrado that caught that first fish still gets all tangled up in the netting (my rubberized net has quite a small mesh so can still be a problem - not necessarily hooked into the twine itself but more that it's a pain to get the hooks out of the mesh after the fish thrashed around a bit in it and got the hooks tangled up. Maybe I can make the bag of the net a bit shallower - anyway, lots of figure out to make things go more smoothly and quickly.

If I had to leave earlier, it would have been 2 WF in an hour (but of course, I fished as much as I could squeeze out just as all fishermen would do...just in case). I did see something cool as I was heading back...a WF jumped out of the water in front of me so I stopped and dropped my bait. The bottom 5 ft in much shallower waters (<30ft) had lots of marks and I had a couple of chasers but with the pressure of getting back, I gave up quickly (after marking that spot of course to try on Friday). I have to wonder if they are starting to head shallower in prep for their spawning time coming up?

Looking good, those fish must be ready to spawn next 3-4 weeks on that lake.

I have the rubberized net and hooks are still get stuck in it. This year I bought the net which is made just from plastic like silicon – that really makes difference, I recommend it.

Thanks. I will have a look to see if they have replacement netting - I can't justify buying another net since I have several of different sizes too.
