My son and I went to Lake Ontario last Friday. We setup at 5:15 a.m. and had a fish on before we had the second rod setup. The action was non stop for 4 hours. We had four double headers and most fish were between 8 and 18 pounds. We fished until 2:00 and went 22/29.
The next morning my brother joined us and the action was the same. He hasnt fished Lake Ontario since the late 90’s and was impressed. We gave him the he first four fish to fight until he begged us for a break. We had one triple header and landed all three. The fish were the same size range with pockets of similar sized fish scattered everywhere.
In early morning flasher /fly was the hot ticket until 9:00 and then spoons took over . The fish liked a fast troll of about 3 mph to 3.3 mph.If we slowed to 2.3 -2.5 the bite dropped off noticeably.Best spoon colours were black and gold nk mag and green on silver nk mag. Other colours also worked but those were the best. On friday one rod with bl/ gold caught two thirds of the fish.
We ended up landing30 salmon out of 39 solidly hooked up.
The fish also were not out far as we never got out past 115 feet and caught fish in 50 feet.
Heres a few pics.

WOW! Do you eat those? I don't fish the big lakes, so I never see salmon or big lake trout.

Yes we do. We like to keep the 5-10 pound fish for eating. I usually bbq them with cedar smoke and let the fat run off. I also fillet off the belly portion to keep the leaner meat.

/you had some amazing fishing.........huge congrats

also, way to think outside of the box......in terms with playing with speeds till you have it dialed in

Enjoy those eaters.....you trim them exactly like I do sometimes I go one step further and cut out the laterel line/mud line as well

keep at it

Great report and congrats on a couple days of spectacular fishing…. Cedar plank on the bbq is one of my favourites for salmon.
