Hello I'm new here so I'll start by some background on myself. I’ve been boating my whole life but all my boating experience has been with motorboats since I’ve been 7 years old.
I lived in northern Ontario most my life. I have been a skilled fisherman on water and ice. I have now moved to southern Ontario do to I was injured working in the logging industry years back. I have recently had a hip replacement last fall.
My adult daughter and I are looking at taking up kayaking being it's a good way to get exercise with no lower body impact as well as a good way to spend quality time with her. She has also been around water her whole life water skiing, kneeboarding,tubing....
Fishing out of the kayak is not the top priority for us. Stability and comfort for long hours are are main priorities. I have been researching kayaks that would work for us so far I have added to the short list Old Town Sportsmen 120 and the Perception Pescador Pro 12
I’m looking forward to any input on helping us select a kayak for us from the members here.

Comfort of the seat important if pre existing injury. Sit on kayaks easier to get in and out. One thing to consider is the weight moving it around on land, may also need a cart. I have a sit on top Ocean Kayak Big Game, very comfortable seat, stable but heavy at approx 75-80 pounds. I used to carry it on top of my truck but now use a bed extender carrier. I also have sit in kayaks, better paddling speed with less effort, cuts the wind better with lower profile but not great for fishing and definitely more difficult to get out of after a long paddle (I’m 61)

I have the Pescasdor Pilot, which I think is the pedal variant of the Pro.
Stability is excellent IMO, was out on Kempenfelt on a day that the winds picked up viciously, felt very stable in waves I really shouldn't have been out in. The lines of the kayak track fairly well and cut waves nicely.
I don't have experience with other kayak's seats, but I would say that this one is at least comfortable, with reasonable adjustments. I have back issues, this seat was good to me. Not sure how hips would react. The seat is removeable, if you go to the store and ask to sit in it for a bit, it may allay (or confirm) your concerns.
As for fishing, the only criticism I have is the molded rod holders. They don't hold rods well at all. I've seen Youtube vids on how to address that, or people just add their own holders

i have a pescador pro 12 that i have used for several years. it is light , paddles well and the seat is comfortable. I have back issues and the seat is no problem. Stable for sitting on but I don't stand in it. I also have a feelfree lure 10 which has a very comfortable adjustable seat. A wheel is built into it to roll it down ramps. it's wider and stable enough to stand on but is heavier and not as easy to paddle. If i did it again i would get the 12' model which is more streamlined and has lower sides so less wind movement when drifting.

X2....buy the Hobie....pricey but worth it.....I run the Pro Angler 14 foot.....Bought last Fall and have not done a lot of miles on it yet but I like the ones I have done so far.

Check also the Wavewalk S4.
It is not a kayak, it is a skiff, it can be easily motorized with electric or gas or just paddle it. You can fish, hunt or sleep in it. You can use it on small lakes, rivers or great lakes. I troll with down riggers Lake Erie and Ontario with it.

Yes. I got my Wavewalk S4 model few 4-5 years back. I own till then 2 - W500 the smaller model. I start to troll for walleye (Lake Erie) and Salmon on Ontario 10 km offshore using outboard motors on it from 2HP to 6HP. I can use down rigger on it with 8LB ball. When I go on small rivers I remove the engine and the down rigger and I paddle or use an electric Minkota. It is nice to have a craft that can go on big lakes and small river/lakes. I don't need a ramp to launch, as long I have free parking I can go anywhere. No trailer for me. I use a Dodge Caravan to carry it inside. I don't like to carry in top of the car.
