We were using Navionics to keep our distance from the shoals and islands.

Yes thats what I use but I have also put down breadcrumb trails with weigh points at the start in case I ever get caught out there....I just head for the weigh point and follow the trail back to my dock. The Navionics is in my Hummingbird GPS.
