Does anyone have experience with taking an inboard/outboard engine out of an aluminum boat then putting it back in after the transom is rebuilt? Also removing a 9.9 kicker.

It's a Mercruiser 5.0 L in a Lund Tyee 1950.

A shop quoted me about 50 hours. Does that sound right?

I can tell you that I once bought a boat knowing that the engine might have not been winterized properly. Saturday morning first ride proved tthat to be true. Pulled boat out and started taking apart, had the engine out by 1pm. This was a 4.3l but very similar to your 5.0l.
Before i pulled it my Dad went searching an found a good used close by and we started putting it in aound 2-3pm. After a few evening beers we were out testing it in the morning. Mind you, I do have a backhoe that helped to pull the engine outdoors. I would say within 12hrs ,total old one out, replacement in. I have pulled installed my share of I\O's though.

Quoting 50 hours sounds like they don’t want to do it

I have seen many io engines pulled out and reinstalled 454.s for example

average time for both operations was about 16 hours with the reinstall taking longer as the engine has to be level and connected back to main shaft has to be within specific tolerances

Ya, I thought the quote was rather high. I figured 25-30 hours.

I'll keep looking.
