Heading up to Buckhorn for another year of muskie hunting tomorrow. Hope to have a year as successful as last year. We mainly troll for muskie and have caught some on surprisingly large lures (eg. LSC sized baits) I hope the wind and weather cooperate but I noticed a cold front pushing through tomorrow night. We always take good care of the fish, eg, have proper nets, hook cutters, etc. and I am sure we have caught the same fish more than once over the years. I have posted some pics from last year and hope to post some new ones from this week.

Muskies caught over 3 - 4 days, approx 6 - 7 hrs per day on water. Mainly pulling crank baits and successful releases for all fish to be caught another day. We seem in pretty good shape for the partying that happens each night.

Was on Upper Buckhorn last week and what a shame. I found three dead muskie that were all clearly "live release" morts by anglers. Imagine what the true number is if I alone found three! Something has to change. Muskies Canada doesn't seem to be on the ball with the angler education. People are over-playing these fish (prob. from using too light tackle), not using slings, lifting them from the water for pics, holding them vertical, etc). The attempted live release falls short when the fish dies hours later from capture myopathy. A real shame. All three were big females in the 16-22 lb range. With pike coming down the chute, a small lake like Upper Buckhorn is in trouble if things don't change.

You should have some nice pictures to post when you get back. Good luck and stay safe.
