Hi Folks, I went fishing on a Lake Ontario eastern tributary yesterday. Fishing was a little difficult since I was fishing the jungle, overgrown section of the creek, with lots of timber. I went 1 for 4 on steelhead and 2 for 2 on brown trout, also caught over 2 dozen small shakers and smolt trout. Most of the larger steelhead trout won the battle using the wood and timber to their advantage. Fish came on a stonefly pattern and some took the pinkie worms. Roe did not produce on this day. All in all a great day to be out. Weather was perfect. Cheers & Happy Fishing. Jerry

Blue Fox, in this case I used a shorter rod than my typical 11' noodle rod for river fishing. I went with a 9' medium action, but you could probably use shorter like 7'. I use medium action since you need a rod with some backbone to pull the trout out of the wood. The longer rod like I was using isn't ideal, since it is more difficult to travel in the woods as well you get hung-up in over hanging branches alot, but the advantage is it gives you more leverage to manouver the trout around the timber. Line used was 8lbs, I should have been using 12lb or so, but the heavier the line the less bites you get - catch 22. I don't generally use lighter leaders here, since that's the section of line that rubs against the timber the most. Reel is your standard spinning outfit. I like to use lighter reels for these trips since it's easier to carry and handle during the long walks. Technique is your typical float fishing setup, but I use very light finesse bobbers, drennan. They tend to not spook the trout, since the max water depth in the pools is about 4ft. Baits include, roe, worms and artificals. I used artificals on Saturday, mainly stonefly patterns and plastic trout worms. The fly pattern is the adult stonefly with larger wings, simlar to the fly below.

Great tips! One of the reasons I love this board, know one is afraid to reveal anything. And, more than ready to help people out to new techniques. Cheers!
