Hey All,

My brother-in-law (engaged to my sister for 7 years) is having his bachelor party next weekend on Lake Travers. we are there Friday-Sunday.

Most of us are muskie fishing (not expecting anything huge) with some walleye and catfish fishing as well.

Ive never been catfish fishing and not amazing at Walleye fishing (i mainly target muskies)

Any tips from those who have fished lake travers?

TIA,
Dmorrs

Have not fished Travers for several years but had fun on it. Caught decent musky on a spinnerbait and also just trolling a rattling lipless across the middle of the lake !! I did see a few guys anchored to the south of the first island catching catfish with just jigging a jighead and worm. Enjoyed my time on the lake...enjoy yours !!!!!!!!!! ROOK

Confirmed we had an absolute blast!

Friday the group (9) all arrived at the campsites by 2pm.

A few set catfish lines right away while unpacking.

Friday evening, 6 of us set out to go muskie fishing. 3 fish were caught (32", 34" 39.5"). after sunset, we had a campfire and caught a bunch of catfish (3 fish all about 1.5-2lbs were kept for the deepfrier). 32 fish were caught between 9pm and 2am

Saturday morning, I went out solo (most of the other guys were too hungover) I found a 22' hole by the campsite and fished it. caught my first ever catfish. a 6.5lb channel catfish. kept that and a couple smaller ones around the 3lb mark. caught another 8-9 fish, one was closer to 10lbs which i released, and the the others were small, also released. Caught these on a jighead with a white twister tail. was casting up into the rocks and slow straight retreive until it got crushed. nearly a bite on every other cast. they were thick in there.

with darkening skies, i headed back to camp in my 12' deep-v. the guys were extremely happy with the haul and subsequent midnight fish fry. that afternoon, the skies opened up and i could not believe how much rain came down. my 12' deep-v was filled to the point it couldnt fill because it reached the level of my transom. was nearly bone dry prior to this. the rain lasted only a few hours but we had to stand under the tent taking turns holding the canvas up to make sure it didnt collapse. (while drinking of course) our campsite nearly became its own stream with so much rain. even with full rain gear and tents overhead, attempts to stay dry were unsuccessful. i swear ive come out of a pool, drier then that couple hrs of rain.

All in all, this was my first time even setting up a tent on my own (other then my ice fishing pop-up) let alone camping. what a blast! unfortunately i couldnt get any pictures as my phone is 100% full with pics and videos of my 2 yo daughter over the last 2 years (no regrets). The beers and whiskey were ice cold, spirits were higher then a kite, fishing was phenomenal (8 muskies caught in total with 39.5" being biggest). Definitely opened my eyes to a whole different world! Amazing weekend.

Ps, i have found a new appreciation for my porcelan throne at home haha

I was a few lakes upriver from you on the Petawawa. Great to hear that weather didn't put you off camping, that's quite a weekend for your first experience! I've been backcountry camping for years and that was the most rain I've seen in such a short time. Had to stop and dump out the canoe multiple times. Travers is quite a place, hoping to get there again later this year.
