Coming up to nipissing on the 5th. Can anyone tell me how thick the ice is right now. We have had some pretty warm weather down here in Niagara. We are going to Waltonian drive area.
in the past week I have been on the ice in my Jeep Commander which weighs about 4500lbs. - equal to a 1/2ton pickup truck. I spent time on Callander Bay, Sunset Point, drove out from Callander Bay to Deepwater Point and also drove from Sunset point out to where Grumpy's ice huts are 3-4km towarsd the Manitou islands.... the ice is plenty thick in those areas. At one point i was parked and the guy from Grumpy's drove right up close to me! I was a little nervous- we had 2 heavy vehicles within 5 feet of each other but nothing happened...
I concur with phillyphillster. I've been sledding across Callander Bay these past two weeks. Despite some unwinterlike weather, the bay has firmed up. I would, as a precaution, avoid the area of the Town of Callander's water intake (approx 1.3km off the Town's southern beach. Of course, don't get close to Wasi Falls. I would also be wary of the ice on the northern shore around where the Cranberry Marsh drains into the bay. The Middle Channel (south of Grand Trunk Island) has snowmobile tracks going through it, but there was some mush halfway along. The FOSC trail seems fine. Otherwise, as I look out my window, trucks and ice shanty villages are out there having fun right now.

We were at Idle Tyme last Thursday to Sunday and there was 18"-20" of ice under their bungalows. They say the ice was covered in slush but all was frozen over while we were there. Shawn and Terra are great hosts.

How was the fishing Fat Rap, heading up there next week with the young lad so hoping for a little action. Are their bungalows equiped with lights if we bring a generator?

Fishing was not bad, by Saturday night we had 15 pickerel under the slot size and about 20 decent sized perch for our fish fry. No need for a generator if you are going to Idle Tyme as the bungalows have propane lights in them, we brought up a generator and a TV/DVD for later at night.

Thanks FatRap, sometimes the propane lights aren't that bright in a few of the huts ive been in in the past and we were going to bring one and a little tv for the kids anyways. Thanks for the reply.
