I’ve had issues last year with another smitty that I built.

My car is really tight for space so I’m looking for alternatives to the large smitty we built last season.

I have this little foldable sled that I’ve attached some eyes to and wondering if I could get some feedback.

It stands 9 inches off the ground, has steel straps for runners and it’s about
12 inches wide and 44 inches in length.

Seeing as it folds right in half,, it fits perfectly in my car.

Just wondering if it’s too narrow and if tipping might be an issue.

Also wondering if I should screw in a set of skis to glide better in the snow ?

Mine was 18" wide last year and when I crossed ruts and pressure cracks it would tip over. I widened it this year a foot and yesterday when I crossed the ruts and pressure cracks it took them like a champ. Nice and stable.

i made mine so it could be broken down for transport and you can use various length cross beams depending on the width of your sled you are pulling

just 4 wing nuts needed to tighten the cross beams down and skis fit between sedan rear arm pass through of back seats.

I think your smitty needs to be wider to not tip over. To narrow doesn’t really give you that balance load on it.

After a "road test" you'll know -- even if you don't test drive it like you stole it!

Years ago I had a narrow sled that kept tipping over when going through deeper snow (which when you really need the help of a sled). I made my smitty wider than my tracks would be and that solved the tipping issue.

It gives you something to "tweek" over the winter, when not on the ice and wanting to avoid being landlocked in the main house! ("A fellow can only take so many Leaf's games, you know!!")

I went wide after my pelican was a nightmare for tipping over.

If you are looking for an easy add on to your existing smitty, consider the extra skis on outriggers attached with wingnuts as the other post shows on his main uprights.

Using fence boards has been a dream for weight. Light, and flex well to conquer rough terrain.

My limit has already been exceeded!!

Do you use fence boards for cross members?

Any pix of your outriggers

Still bitter after the Marlies left in 2005?
The 1800 km "drive" to the nearest rink can be a bit of a damper!

Pics.

2 fence boards over and across the main uprights from skis. 4 fence boards spaced over front to back. Those 4 boards added a ton of extra space with minimal weight added.
