these guys were lucky that it stayed upright when it went through. Few years back in a lake around my area an argo went through the ice only on one side so it tipped over on it side dumping them out, they were also lucky and no one got hurt and were pretty close to shore and had just found a weak spot on otherwise safer ice.
.I do like the comment about the brain app that a good one. As far as people should walk to get exercise no all of us are able to walk that distance on ice safely, so take a quad, I get my exercise on land.

9 atv machines thru the ice yesterday.    Lots of darwin award winners ..  Other form Iam on is where I get info.  Not even the guides are taking clients out .  Be safe if you do go.

Well technically they are probably Darwin wannabes. To actually get a Darwin award you have to actually remove yourself from the gene pool. Typically this means dying but the odd time some yahoo blows their junk off and lives but is no longer able to reproduce so they qualify.

All the funny comments that go with some of these events but then it does hit home as well when someone actually gets really injured or worse yet, killed. Hope everyone is being as safe as they can reasonably be out there. It's been surprising how little ice there is on many lakes out here -been wanting to test out my new powered auger but not worth carrying the extra weight with so little ice so it's all been elbow grease so far.

In some jurisdictions, if you're at fault and crash your vehicle (damage a hydro pole) you are sent the bill to repair/replace it.

This should be no different. These people should be sent a rescue bill.

You and I are paying for their stupidity.

It’s a slippery slope charging people for ice rescue , you don’t want people second guessing calling for help when they are in trouble because they are scared of the bill.

Emergency personnel could use their judgement.

I always walk out on the ice, it is called good exercise and i am in my late 60's. People are just plain lazy taking a machine out when it is only a 10-15 minute walk.

100% Doing the same.

Hmmmm. I used to walk but a few years ago I got handicapped and I am now also 74 but I don't consider myself lazy and there are others that also love to fish that are in my position. Limited yes....lazy no......I need my machine to fish but I also realise when I can drive it and when I can't.

Same can be said for our current crop of federal politicians
Same can be said for wreckless drivers
Same can be said for motorcycle riders who don’t have to wear helmets and end up at the ER
Same can be said for a many situations, but that’s the way she goes

This is NOTHING to do about being lazy!!!

When I was in my 50's I used to walk out and pull my gear behind me . Buy the time I got out my shirts got wet .......sweating so much, and I had to change my shirts.

Now 20 years later........I'm going out much further and pulling MUCH HEAVIER gear and set up ....(.total weight could be 150 -200 Lbs) And I'm pulling this with my snowmobile!

And also the big advantage of this set up is ...........I can fly over any slush.......deep snow.....or even bare ice!
