I don't hunt Lake Simcoe, but I can understand these complaints. I know if I owned property on any water and was woke up by someone blasting away just the other side of the break wall. the current law is as long as the hunters feet are in the water they are good and not shooting towards the houses. Imagine a nice sun Saturday you have friends over for a BBQ party in the backyard and some hunter comes along and sets up just off shore and starts banging away. I know a woman that this has happened, and there was a pellet through her window on another occasion. Personally I won't hunt even a field if it is anywhere near a school or a church at least on a Sunday. I know people that will sit almost on a fence and shoot into the field, upsetting the home owners even though it is legal to do so. I prefer to not draw attention to myself.
I know there is a bylaw passed in Lake St Clair towards Windsor that says you have to be 300m off shore at least I think it 300m.
Now these could just be rich people from TO that just figure they own the water and the hunters were not anywhere near them.

I like your approach Sabmgb and that is an approach of common sense......it will keep everyone happy. As with fishing the few with no common sense will ruin the hunting as well. I haven't hunted for years. Putting pellets through windows should never happen. That means the hunter was well within range of the home.....shame on the fools and unfortunate for those that abide with the utmost of common sense.

you guys seem very accommodating and willing to roll over so easy. If that goes on hunting in southern Ontario will become extinct as pretty much can't turn around without bumping into someone. I look at it this way. Its like buying a house next to train tracts then complaining the train noise is too disturbing and it should move. Laws are already in place to address safety concerns this is just more NIMBY behaviour that really shouldn't be tolerated.

This is a topic that raises my blood pressure every time it comes up.
Have hunted Simcoe for over 40 years. What these "entitled" local residents fail to realize is that LEGAL hunting was going on long before their houses/cottages were built. I have had too many occasions to count where residents have interfered with our legal hunting,
It pays to have your local Game Warden on speed dial as he is on your side as long as you are playing by the rules. The local Police don't really know the laws regarding hunting on Simcoe and this is where the Game Warden takes over.
I've had people paddle out hundreds of yards to tell me I can't hunt where I am because it's in front of their house. We are clearly set up so that we are shooting away from shore and will not under any circumstances shoot towards shore, but this isn't good enough for them.
I take every precaution possible to never shoot towards anyone's property or house. Common sense is your best friend. If you have to ask yourself if what you are doing is going to attract unwanted attention, then it's probably best to move somewhere else.
These residents will never be happy until they have the whole lake and all access cut off to the "outsiders" who dare to disturb THEIR little slice of heaven. Once they get one thing closed, they will move on to the next thing they don't like.
We need to stay within the law, not do things that will allow them to use anything against us (everyone has a cell phone camera, including you) and to get the proper authorities involved if you are harassed and interfered with. They will never be satisfied until they have anything that annoys them shut down

Everything changes and yet everything stays the same.
We all need to get along and be safe but the hunting was always there, yet entitled people seem to think they have the right to try to prevent hunting because they moved into a shoreline property. I have hunted divers 300 yard off shore and had the cops called on me and my friends. The cop that came was great. He just shook our hands and said he had to come out but knew we were doing everything legal. He specifically said that he person who called said the duck are her friends.
To many fools who don’t know other have rights to.
