Hello everyone,
A friend of mine is looking to buy his first boat. Something on the smaller side, 14ft or so, used. I know nothing about this, as I was lucky enough to enjoy my father's then new boat for the last decade. Attaching photos of the boat, and he's looking at a different trailer.
Any advice on buying a used boat, and any advice in general would be greatly appreciated. Also, he has an 8hp Yamaha to work with.

Jesse, that was my first thought as well. He is looking for a fixer upper from what I understand. I just think he's better off saving up a little and getting something in better condition, since he's still going to spend money on TLC and already has a motor that should fit his heeds

And last one. Longshank, I feel you... Also, what seats?. My buddy says he's more than willing to make it a project, I'm just not sure this is a good starting point for him. Also, he's about 4 hours away from the sellers

That boat would be too heavy for an 8 hp motor. I think it had floor and steering wheel possibly windshield that have been removed. I think he can do bettter.

yeah that is more like a give away to make space and clean up the junk. I gave a boat away that was in way better shape just to make room for a new boat. Your buddy needs to look around more I'm willing to bet there are a lot of boats out there that are in a lot better shape for a $1 000.

Agree 100%. I'm a Yamaha guy but an 8 HP would struggle on that boat especially on a lake like Simcoe.

Thank you everyone for the replies, they do reflect my own thoughts. Especially the fact that there are hundreds of boats like this out there, do some shopping around... Anyways, again thank you all, much appreciated. Love this forum

ya, that is a project in the making for sure
I see lots of dollars and effort to get that water ready, and it's just a 14 footer
hundreds more to choose from and that's the route I would go
