Great fishing., Costly mistake.

Over the last 33 years my luck has been very good with not breaking or losing a cell phone. My first cell phone was a Motorolla flip phone back in 1991. After that there was a few Nokia phones right up until 2017 when a small LG smart phone was purchased. Had that for a few years and then upgraded to a Samsung A-11. We will get back to that in a moment. Went up to the lake and fished Wednesday and Thursday and came home Friday for the birth of a new member of the family. My dad is back in the hospital but doing better, and by a bit of luck the baby was born at the same hospital. The proud father, (my nephew) came up to share his joy with his grandfather. My sister had 5 children and they now have 12 children between them and counting. When I take the whole family including wives and husbands to the movies, there is 26 of us. That is just my side of the family, and it's still growing. Back to the fishing. Wednesday night the storm came close to me but didn't disturb the fishing. Lots of bugs, and lots of fish over the evening and night. The thunder and lightning and rain was way north on the horizon, so I kept my fingers crossed. Quit at sunrise and went to sleep for a while. Got up mowed the lawn ate some food, (fish) and decided to wash some clothes. Cargo pants when fishing, five pockets in my pants. Took out my wallet and change, glasses, gum, keys etc. I left my phone in the front pocket and into the washing machine it went for a swim. A few minutes later I was going to post the pictures from Wednesday night. Where is my phone I asked....OH NO!!!!....HOLY CRAP!!!!....Opened the washer and found my phone. Full of water and ruined of course, but saved the SD card with all my old pictures. Lost the pictures from Wednesday night night because I had not transferred them to the card yet. Here is the phone hanging on the fridge, it will never work again. LOL.

Thusrday night was about the same a Wednesday night. Lots of bugs and fish. Big bugs, and small bugs, big fish and small fish. I usually try and fish right at the tips of the weeds and lure the walleye and crappie up to the bait at night. Thursday was both up shallow and down in the weeds with some sinking lures. I prefer staying just above the weeds and not removing green stuff every cast. Here is a picture of the lures used over the two nights. The usual two floating shallow lures on the left, and the two sinking deeper lures on the right. All four lures caught fish, and lots of fish caught on the bobber and jig as well.

Here is a picture of my last three phones. The Nokia on the left was used right up to 2017. Then the small LG that ran out of space. Switched to a Samsung A-11 the one I just murdered in the washing machine. The new phone is a Samsung A-15 which was a very good price, and will be just as good as the last Samsung. As long as it stays out of the washer. With the new phone when a picture is taken, it goes directly onto the SD card. So no more lost pictures, unless the phone gets lost. Sorry about not having any fish pictures to post....Next adventure is just around the corner. Hopefully the luck and fishing will be the same next time out. Stay safe.

Sorry to hear about your cell phone. Might I suggest, in the event it happens again, or gets wet in any way shape or form, that you place it into a container filled with rice?

It helps to remove any moisture from any device.

The worst thing you could do with a completely soaked device is to turn it on as that may result in a short circuit which will then toast the entire circuit board, rendering it useless.

Thank you Attila. You are right, if your phone gets wet, turn it off immediately. Do not try and turn on your phone for 48 hours. And yes putting the phone in container of rice may work sometimes, but that method is more of a myth than fact. The best way to try and save the phone from water damage is to dry it off first. Then stand it up so most of the water can drain out the ports in the bottom of the phone. Then put the phone in front of a fan for 48 hours. If you are successful in which ever method you choose to use, there is still no guarantee the phone did not sustain damage. For example, the battery may have been compromised by the water, and may have sustained damage. Now the battery may be unsafe to charge or discharge, and could cause a fire, or explode. I received this information from the manufacturer of the phone. For myself, I would rather spend a few hundred dollars on a new phone than risk a more costly accident to property or person. As for my phone, the washing machine sure made it clean in the few minutes it was in there. Now it's no more than a paper weight. LOL. Oh ya the fishing was great again thanks. That's twice I have had to come back to the real world when the fishing was outstanding. Next time I am not coming back no matter what happens in the family.........Obviously that's a joke, and I will always be there when the family needs me.

Crappeeeman sounds like you had good success fishing and missed the storm. To bad about the phone but that is replaceable. The mosquitoes are very large this year but so far have stayed away enough to allow me to fish at least until dark

Congrats on your growing family and too bad about your phone! Years ago my buddy and I were on couchiching ice fishing and my phone fell in. It was on bottom in about 13 feet of water for about an hour and then we somehow managed to hook onto the side of the case and bring it in. I went and got a new phone because it was done. Lo and behold the guys were over a couple of weeks later to watch the game and suggested I try firing it up… it worked haha! Anyhow sounds like you had a good time fishing, looking forward to more reports

Put it out in the sun on a picnic table during a hot sunny day, can remove moisture from the innards faster than any rice IMO. You may be surprised it may come back to life. I feel you, I bathed my phones two years in a row up north in the bush, both times my phone was recoverable weeks later. One time my phone sat for months, then I tried charging it on a whim, boom, back online, immediately backed up the photos.

Thanks flexkk. Almost everything can be replaced these days, at a reasonable price. Yes there are some beast mosquitoes this year. So many other bugs out earlier than normal as well. I said it was going to be a great fishing season this year back during ice out. I couldn't predict it would be this good, must be the bugs and all the rain.

Thank you Iceman, the family is growing with no limit it seems on how many more there will be. The bigger the family, the more you can protect each other. There is always someone to step in and help when the other may not be able. I am trying to get back up there for a quick adventure. All depends on some factors, but will post the results when that happens. The phone is toast. LOL Took it apart and would need more than luck like fishing to work again.

Thanks mykola. I wonder just how many phones have fisherman lost to water. Either getting wet or lost on the bottom forever. I can't remember the last time prior to this, being without a phone while fishing. Back in the day our moms would call us in from playing with an old school bell. If we were fishing, we had to be back at a certain time. If we were late and did not have a good reason...... well that didn't happen very often. Did not need smart phones back then, everyone knew where we would be.

I scored one....bounced of the dock and retrieved it with a landing net. Took me a half hour. This was a few years ago. Took it all apart and dried it then cleaned all contacts with alcohol, put it together and it worked....only the ringer never worked.....I always have it on vibrate anyway.
