Finesse bite

Been on the lake 24 hrs off sunset cove, lots of marks… tough bite… cold front? Strange cause pressure is low and dropping slightly, overcast, etc.

How’s everyone else doing? Getting a few dinks here and there, tiny jig heads are about all that’s working.

Barometer has been relatively low but steady at 29.3 inches of mercury, not changing much at all. Hoping for an improvement tomorrows

But I did land this chunky pike for the pan at least!!

It was the same for us last weekend. Can't tell you how many fish we marked.. hundreds. Most would come right up to the bait or even bump it.. then swim away. Was apparently the same for most.
Storm hit the day before.. I'm told that was dead as well.

Throw down a simcoe bug or other tiny tungsten jig tipped with a pea sized piece of worm and you can actually hook them if you’re fast enough when they “bump” it when they finicky like that. Some of those “bumps” could be whoppers..

We were using 1/16oz jigs and pinheads. Usually does the trick. I balance my rods and sometimes a close fish will send the minnow into a frenzy. Even that wasn't coaxing hits.
I tried jigging a micro grub - no takers.

I've never seen the lake like that. Fish so active but with lockjaw.
At one point the flasher was lit up like a christmas tree.. I said to my buddy (also with a finder) "You seein' this?" and he goes "Yup". If it wasn't for the sonar you'd never know there were fish down below.

Pike in bacon fat, more bacon, coffee, whisky, repeat. Nice fish.

It was hunting type weekend, the fish demanded some sweat equity.

I dig it tho; and it pays off to face the adversity and cover more ground out in the elements. I’ve always run tipups but these past couple years I converted to jaw jackers and have been really enjoying the hookup rate improvement at the cost of the freezing holes obstacle.

Hooked into a few beauties, will create a separate post for the coles notes on our family day weekend with our beauty of an outfitter SSIC.
