I am quite tired of my kayak anchor line being a huge knotted mess all the time as I have 50ft and am rarely in more than 10fow. So I decided to get a couple mooring cleats and cut up an old wooden snowbrush handle to somewhat match the profile as a standoff to get more rope on there. Then I screwed the cleats to the wood and screwed them onto my crate with big washers from the inside out. Then I got some 3"abs and a cap drilled some drain holes and attached it to a 2x4 and again to the side of my crate. Hopefully it helps my sanity out on the water and isn't to hard to reach and grab and put back. Only have a pic of mfinished product and again it's nothing special but may get somebody else thinking and posting something better who knows. Cheers and tight lines everyone!

Good job and always a great idea to keep the anchor line manageable and away from legs and feet..

great idea!!! Not a kayaker but it will work in my tinny for sure. Tired of unravelling slimy rope in the bottom of it all the time.

That is a solid idea.

I use a wheel for winding electrical cable. it can be tricky to keep tension while rewinding but its super compact.

Since doing this I have been watching some of the kayak catfish videos from the Tennessee River and he brought up the fact of having it quick detach in case a big house boat or barge or something with huge wake goes by. He uses a cheap plastic extension cord winder with a pool noodle between it and the karabiner he attaches to the yak. Once he is anchored he let's the whole spool sit in the water. Think I will go to that system as I spend a good part of my kayak time in parts of gbay where boats and wake can get as big as any... Thanks for replies and pics and ideas! Stay safe and tight line folks!

I bought a cheap three dollar cord winder at Home depot this year. It works great with my 50 ft of 1/4" anchor line, No weight and kept it pretty tangle free. I had made a wood one, but was pretty heavy in comparison (maybe 8 lbs).
