Hello All,

I’m planning a trip up to the Temagami area to hopefully do some ice fishing in a couple weeks. I’m curious to know what ice thickness looks like on some/any of the smaller lakes, knowing they freeze up earlier than the big water. Hoping the ice is thick enough to hold a 4 wheeler as well have a lot of gear to pull because we plan to camp on the ice. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Scotty, I’ll be up in Temagami this weekend on some smaller lakes. I’m pretty certain you’ll be fine but can provide an ice update for you on Friday.

Hey Mike33,

That would be great if you could do that for me. We’re planning on sticking to one lake so hopefully we get on some fish. We’re pretty limited to where we can go because we don’t have a snowmobile and have to stay clear of the OFSC trails. Being from St. Thomas we’re rarely in the north and have to use maps and such to try and pick a spot. I know we’re winging it to a certain degree but any info I can get before we put the truck in drive will help. Thanks and best of luck finding fish!

I'm booked in for a ice shack on lake nippising this weekend on the perch grounds. I believe this specific operator goes out about 5 miles off shore on the main lake. I would think farther north the ice would be set up... no guarantees. Good luck and post a report for us!

Good luck to you as well! My wife, in-laws and I used to go up to Nip every year with an outfitter and spend a weekend ice fishing. We didn't always catch a lot but we had a great time at least. Hopefully you get on the fish!

I'm second guessing our plans right now (a LOT!) because I was told there's a lot of slush on some of the lakes now. It's a long way to go to get stuck out on the ice and not fish.

I'm not sure what we'll be doing now but I'm hoping we make it up to try our luck somewhere. I'll definitely post a report on whatever we get up to!

Temagami is a differnet animal than Nip

It is much much deeper and so takes longer to get solid ice on it

I would never go there without checking in with some local knowledge or operators first

Very true about Temagami but I was just asking about the lakes in the area and not Lake Temagami specifically. I've heard and read that they're getting pretty slushy right now with the snow that's accumulated in the last week or two...

Any ideas on how temagami is coming along condition wise with all
This milder weather we’ve had?

Slush? Etc? Must be slushy with recent snow.

Currently up in the Temagami region. Spoke with some anglers who were out on the Northeast arm of Lake Temagami yesterday. 6”-8” variable.

Someone told me twice that amount yesterday. So it’s either really variable or some info is off. Wonder if the snow is hitting it heavy recently like around nip. Going to be another slush fest by mid week
