Another great September for stagers. Been out 6 times so far. The early morning bite is intense. With lines in before 6 am, the 1st fish is usually on within minutes. I like to use light tackle, so it can be challenging turning the boat and chasing these fish in the dark. But what a blast.
Best lures this year was the live target smelt (deep diver), and Tail Dancer in blue/silver. (dives to 20').
You know the bite is on because the salmon are jumping, and rolling all around the harbour. Once the sun is up for a while, the bite slows down. Then I head into the creek and cast the channel with j-13s and Kwikfish. These creek salmon are still feeding and eager to bite, and the next thing is the trolling motor is on high and we are chasing fish up and down the creek.
The strength of these fish still amaze me.

Great job! Looks like they’re a lot more cooperative than here in the west end, this year was a bit of a grind at times. Looking forward to next season already.

Always a great time!!! Congrats on some BIG fish! My friends and I have been doing well also in the mornings.
Our technique is each hold a rod, wait for the slam using bomber long A’s!
So much fun on light tackle!
