I have a clam Scout 1 man flip, and carry my Vexilar, rods, tackle and my little buddy heater. Total wait is about 60 lbs and I put on a Smitty sled I made it's a lot easier to pull.

I use a clam scout thermal, pull my rods, fish finder, manual 8" auger, buddy heater and have been pulling for about 4 years now. No Smitty Sled. The only thing I did different this year was use a much longer rope which makes a hugh difference. It feels pretty much weightless now to pull through the snow. Even in previous years I would walk probably 7-8 km a day on Simcoe.
Another bonus is that all this gear fits in the back of my corolla as long as I take out the baby seats and put the back seats down.

For those that make their Smitty sleds with PVC for the legs and cross bars, how did you attach the legs to the ski's? Also, how did you make it so that it comes apart for transporting in the car? Any issues with durability or stability vs the wooded version?
I have the traditional wood version, but want to make one that cuts back on weight a bit.

one mans quest for the ultimate fishing sled. So I got really jealous of my friends with flip over shelters and the ease with which they pack up and break down. So I got to measuring and thinking and measuring and thinking and drawing and drinking. And i decided that my pelican 60" is not the proper dimensions to become a homebrew flip over. Then i realized that my eskimo quick fish 2 fits perfectly over the sled. I mean PERFECTLY. So now the challenge is make everythign fit inside the sled so as little as possible comes in and out. I simply slide it off the smitty sled and then pop up the hut and anchor overtop. So behold my smitty/pelican sled mrk 3.1 (mrks 1 and 2 were useless). It features a removable seat with storage underneath for tackle lights ect. ample room for a cooler/bait bucket. When I upgrade my auger it wont be carried in the sled so space savings there. I still have to source a smaller deep cycle battery to run my inverter. 300W from canadian tire. And install the gas piston under the seat. Hope this give people lots of ideas!
