WICKED LING. DID YOU GET A MEASUREMENT OR WEIGHT?
Never did get a weight or measurement. We took a few quick pics, then back down the hole it went. It was heavy, though, I'd guess in the 8 lb range? Hit right in the lull period (around 1:30-2 PM) I was almost falling asleep in the warm hut, when BAM...hit like a freakin' freight train, lol!

If you don't mind me asking.....what did you catch that ling on? Heading out in a couple of weeks and would love to reel one of those in. Heard they are delicious!

It was on a gold Mr Champ spoon. That said we caught four, during our stay, all on Swedish Pimples. That fish was on a mission, the way it hit, not sure if lure type mattered too much. Kept one about 5 lbs to eat. Bit of a pain to clean, but, there is a great video on the Northern Lakes forum showing how to do it properly. We cut the meat into 1 - 1 1/2 inch chunks boiled in water, with some salt, then dipped in melted butter....yummy.

Not my PB but caught this 23 incher January '09 on my first outing of the season.
And again not my personal best but by far the Laker I best remember. Caught in 7 feet of water, 32" x 19.75" @ 14.6 lbs. And less than 15 minutes drive from Lake Nipissing.

Nice fish The Spank, that laker wouldn't have come out of one of those little lakes you pass on the way up Hwy.63 by chance?
No it came from waters right on the edge of the city. I used to fish a lot off the 63 hwy though and had some fantastic days fishing Splake, Specks and Bows, especially Splake! There are some fantastic Splake lakes that produce some great fishing. Lots of fun to be had flatlining at ice out and dragging around leech and minnow patterns on a fly rod is a blast. Lots of fish in the 2-4 pound range. My PB Laker came from the same area as the one in the picture trolling a traditional floating rapala in chartreuse/silver in 3 f.o.w shortly after ice out. Came in at 35"x20.5", 19 lbs.
