A perfect way for you to end the season...some nice crappie. I think I am done as well given the forecast coming up....next year I will know better to try to schedule more fishing time for September to early-November (or maybe even later if this climate change keeps moving the fish activity later and later into the year). It was a good year for me...after so many years of a break from fishing.

A good ending indeed. You had quite a good season I must say! My season usually ends when the salmon are done then it’s time for hunting which I’m still having fun working at. Do you ever ice fish? Something tells me you’d be quite good at it. I’m looking forward to that too but not until there’s lots of safe ice under me, as you know I usually haul out quite a bit of gear, it’s got a good weight to it.

Thank you Flukes. The big crappie were very illusive the first three nights. Sunday night they were right on the edge of a drop off in 10 feet of water. I am sure they have dropped off the shelf now into 15 or even 20 feet of water. If not gone already, for sure in the next 2 or 3 days. There they will stay all day, and only come back up to 10 feet at night to chase the minnows. Best time to catch them will be short, 3 hours at best. As soon as the sun has completely set. That's it, three hours then they are gone again for the night. This year was a late and still warm fall, so lots of fish. Last year the fish headed for the deep water right at the end of the season, middle of November. Next year the season will probably be cold in the fall, so don't make your plans too late in the season. Glad you had a good year, next year should be better. Here is a good example, last year I was already catching fall pike at this time.

Lots of pike last year at my favourite pike fishing spot. I am going to try and get there on Thursday. I bet the pike fishing will not be great yet. Water is warmer than last year. Time and temperature will tell the tale. No monster pike last year, but who cares. As long as the bobber goes down and I don't freeze to death, it's a good day of fishing.

Thank you Jay, very lucky in my fall fishing this year. Yes ice fishing does happen from time to time. But that word "time" is what never seems to be enough of for me in winters past. Maybe this year, only time will tell. You send me another good description like that lake you fished last winter. I will do my best to tell you exactly where the crappie are hiding again. If I am wrong you get your money back. LOL. Good luck with the hunting, my uncle was moose hunting for a week two weeks ago. And he just came back from a week of deer hunting yesterday. He hunts with a gun, I hunt with a fishing pole. Haven't been hunting myself, for over forty years.

Thanks Shank. Have always been a night person since a child. Worked at a roller rink for years and the all night skates were my favourite. Worked security in bars all through the 80's and into the 90's. The darkside (after hours) is where life gets interesting for lack of a better word. Good luck on the big river, looking forward to your pictures.

Haha thanks! Your intel definitely helped me last year! We’ll see where we end up, I may try a couple of different lakes just to do some more exploring of the area but who knows. We were gun hunting but now that’s closed and we’ll be hunting with our crossbows. Not a lot of deer action in our area lately. several theories bouncing around but I think wolves and coyotes are to blame. Good thing is we are very much alike, as well as a lot of board members, and like to just simply be out there. Fish or no fish, animal or no animal, I still have a great time.

Wow you have been very busy Jamie.......you have almost caught up for your long educational absence.....great thread with nice Fish....tight lines bruh.

Dang I cant seem to get out as I have now cancelled two charters for Steelhead in as many weeks and the next two weeks are a disaster for weather by Owen Sound....fricking wind and now snow coming in....the season may be over and have that lull till first ice.

I have been wondering why you have not been putting some pictures up. Sorry to hear about the multiple cancelations. Was going pike fishing tomorrow but putting that off for now. Yes, the cold weather is coming. These are the dark days of fishing. Some anglers wishing for a few more warm days to fish. Other anglers wishing for an early winter, with safe black ice to fish on. Good luck with what ever Mother Nature brings you Arnie.
