I hunted 5 days of controlled shotgun party hunting this year. I found, several rubs, three scrapes with licking branches, some big buck tracks, some doe and some doe and fawn tracks, found their trails, found their beds, but never found a single pile of turds, very weird. I sat, I dogged, I sniffed, I listened, I watched, I waited, I got excited at the milk weed flashes (more than once) but I never got a glimpse of the elusive white tail. Well that's not totally true, I got busted sneaking in the dark at 5am, a snort, a wheeze, and tail flashed before my eyes and with that it's gone into the darkness of morning. Every minute was amazing, enjoyable, peaceful, the fresh morning air, the sun rising over still surroundings, warm dry and just an amazing awakening to witness. I'll do it all again next year, and I'm already counting the days, I have harvested many deer in the past but this year was different, it seemed different and it felt different, it felt great to just be present. Our group saw 2 out of range does, one had her fawn with her, lots of turkeys, a wild active bee hive, and a lone coyote. Congratulations to all those successful harvesters enjoy your well deserved harvest.
