Thursday night was just brutal weather all night on Balsam. Cold east wind and went down to 1 degree. My hands were so cold, thought about giving up multiple times. There was fish but not as many as anticipated. Not a whole lot to say about Thursday night. It wasn't fun that's for sure. But you can't expect to much good weather this late in the season. Didn't take many pictures, but here is a couple walleye. The walleye in the bottom picture was just big enough to keep, but I let it go.

Friday night we fished Sturgeon lake. My friend and I tried an experiment. He fished from his boat about 30 yards in front of me, as I fished from his dock. His advantage was being able to cast in all four directions. Also the advantage of having deeper water to access at the stern of the boat. We were lucky the fish were hungry, so the experiment went well. He caught more fish than I did. We only counted walleye with no size limit, each fish was equal value. We have done this many times over the years and proved our theory once again. First picture is the full moon with clouds around 8pm. Second picture was around 2am with the clouds starting to clear.

Next pictures are a sample of the few dozen 6 to 14 inch walleye that were caught.

Next picture is a couple bigger walleye from last night. The far right with tape measure, is a walleye from last week. Just put it in to show a comparison. Almost no difference from size to weight. Lots of medium size walleye last night.

Going back out again soon. Just love this this weather today. Hoping the fishing is even better tonight. You never know what's going to happen out there.

Enjoying the simple pleasures in life are overlooked sometimes. Nothing better than the great outdoors. Some of the mistakes I made years ago, have ironically improved my life. LOL.

you certainly get lots of those eyes. How long was your PB small walleye. I got one few years ago trolling with a 2 hook worm harness. Got small perch on one hook and a 4" walleye on the other. Both went back. the perch was bigger than the walleye.

Yes very lucky, lots of fish last night.I have never been that lucky to catch two fish together. The small walleye was under 6 inches.

Interesting experiment. That's how you get a better feel for what may be actually happening. You guys should switch up now and then (i.e., you fish in the boat a bit offshore and see if it's the fisherman that is making the difference )

Thanks, we had fun trying it again. Should have done it again on Saturday, because I was basically skunked.

Congrats on the PB!

Thank you. The walleye was so small, it looked like a muskie lure.

So Thursday night was good fishing with bad weather. Friday night was even better fishing with reasonable weather. Saturday night was basically a skunk with more reasonable weather. Last night was the best weather out of the four nights of fishing. Fished from 4pm until 3am with not much happening until 9pm. A couple OOS walleye, medium size to more small ones again. The future is looking good when all these walleye grow up. A friend mentioned to me last night that he thinks there was more walleye again this year. I agree, last five years have been improving as far as where we fish. Keep a few, release many. Conservation is the first way to protect the fish and fishery. There was finally a big school of crappie out on the lake last night. Everything seems late this year, because of the warm weather. Always amazes me how you can have a couple good nights of fishing then nothing (skunk). Then the next couple nights you are back to good fishing again. Last night there was also some fat crappie. Almost two dozen, all around the same size. Fishing in 10 feet of water very, very, slowly retrieving a Joker 3.5 feet under the surface. Usually the bait is not that deep but the crappie were lazy last night, until the bobber went down. That's it for my fishing for this year, unless some pike fishing fits my time restrictions. I really enjoy the conversations on the Fishing Forum. Soon you all will be discussing ice fishing. Good luck on the hard water this year. Stay safe. Here is a few pictures from last night. The moon at midnight, not quite full anymore.
