A couple of us are coming up to Callander Bay and were wondering what the ice conditions are. Is it ice for walking on or can you take a snowmobile on it. Always safety first. Thanks for any help.

There's a million shacks on Callander Bay. Most people sled to their shack. Seen a few dummies with trucks.
There's lots of spots with slush.

I left Lavase on Sunday, travelled to the Lighthouse, met up another sled and travelled to Lonely island. Lots of slush.

You'll be OK with a snowmobile.

Thanks Limacharley for the reply. Sort of figured there would be lots of slush. Been a crazy winter. Appreciate your help.

For what it’s worth - In a particular spot I had not fished since the end of January prior to the warm spell. Yesterday I measured 12 inches of ice under the snow with about 1.25 of that being white. Before the past warm spell I had 10 inches there total. Looks like we get into the silly weather again soon if the forecast is correct.

The bite? It was terrible.

Good morning all, I am curious if people will be walking onto calendar bay anymore with a pop up this season. Thanks for any replies. I appreciate the info given on this site. Cheers.

Today with the bitter wind chill I think not. But afterwards I’m sure there will be some.

I guess what I meant to ask is how much longer will we be able to go out on the bay. I know it's not a great year. Just curious what normally happens.

I'm certain most people on here are fully aware of the conditions on Callander Bay but I said I'd post. We were out yesterday afternoon until 8pm or later. There's a pressure crack part way out that you can see from shore. We went out about half a klick. Maybe 5 other pop-ups out there and some were past the crack. It's not that wide yet.

Had a few bites but no luck. We tried on the bottom, just off the bottom and then varying depths. Used jig heads, spoons, jigging raps and just a hook. All with shiners.

Still had a great time. The stars were out in force and the kids made hot chocolates.

All in all I had a great time with the family out there which is exactly what I want at this age.

Cheers.

Hey Bushman_fsj

I took my gf out to Callander Bay today, we got out a tad late (noon) and stayed until 4:30. We saw the pressure crack and stayed away from it, we ended up with two small pike and a bunch of hits. It was her first time ice fishing and she had a blast. Would love another few weeks but it doesn't look like the ice will last. I'm glad you and your family had a great time. I'll see you out there.
