My son and I hunted together opening morning. Our first spot didn’t pan out as the birds moved the other direction. We had permission for two farms over so we set up there and called. We couldn’t get them to respond so we went to a third farm. Just before we crested a hill we hen yelped and immediately got a response from the other side of the hill. Seconds later a turkey head periscope over the hill and picked us off. We gave it five minutes and circled wide around and got gobbles to every yelp. After a bit of give and take my son shot one of the three Tom’s that came in at almost exactly 10:00 a.m.
In the afternoon we tried two spots with another friend and we called in a Tom that he shot. The next few mornings we had birds coming in but no shots until Sunday when another friend shot a tom….also later in the morning after several attempts.
This morning I went solo from our cottage and between calling and stalking I filled my first tag…an 18.4 pound Tom.Here’s a couple pics
