Almost full and full moon fishing., Sunday and Monday night.

Sunday night the moon was almost full and started fishing after 8pm. A new neighbour came down to talk to us at my friends place. He must of asked about 50 questions of why we were fishing off a dock in the evening. Maybe it was the same question worded differently, I am not sure. LOL. He bugged us to come out on his new boat fishing the next day, but my friend was working and I would be asleep during the day. Somehow I got netted into going with him last night to fish. More on that later. Sunday night we caught some small walleye and quite a few crappie and the usual pile of rock bass. Not much wind and some fog rolled in later with the chilly air. A great night to spend relaxing and fishing. We let most of the crappie go, my friend kept ten and I kept two. Here is the almost full moon and crappie pictures.

One crappie was a hair shy of 13 inches, the other was just over 13 inches. Both were nice and fat, the others were too skinny to keep.

So Sunday night was very nice and enjoyable, last night was when things went totally sideways. Went out with this neighbour fishing. First thing I said was....Wow nice boat. His response was....It better be, it was 90,000 American. Off we went on the water, he wanted to catch big walleye but didn't ask me where to go. After a couple of minutes at an unsafe speed we stopped. He went to the front of the boat and turned on his fish finder. His next words were....this better work, it cost me 4,000 American. Then he started taking out multiple fishing rods and just had to tell me how much each rod cost him. Each rod and reel was more than a lot of us could afford. I brought 2 with me, both were St. Croix Panfish rods. One rod to throw crankbaits, and one rod with a slip bobber and pink jig head with a pink and yellow Joker as usual. It got worse very quickly as the subtle insults started right away. First he asked me if I wanted to use a real walleye rod. Then he said my 2 rods wouldn't catch big fish. I have a lot of patience fishing, as some of you have seen. The patience was running low very quickly, but my comments stayed polite. I was so curious as to what was going to happen next. So I said it loud and clear....How big of a walleye would you like to catch? He said, the bigger the better. Then you better turn the boat around and go back a mile or two were my next words. So we went back to shallow water and started fishing, even though he wanted to stay in deeper water. In a grumble, he said there was no fish on his screen. LOL. That was me laughing at him. The fish were there, the fish are always there I explained. Turn off the expensive toy T.V. and you just might catch a fish I said. He left the electronics on while we fished and kept on saying there was no movement, no fish, no nothing. The walleye were hiding in the weeds so he could not see them on the screen. 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes passed and my bobber went down. Just a small walleye maybe 16 inches. He continued to throw his lures, and my bobber went down again in the same spot. A small walleye about 15 inches, then several more small ones. This went on for a couple of hours, and he did catch a fish around 20 inches. I scooped the walleye up with net and went back to fishing. Then there was a splash in the live well. The 20 inch walleye was in the live well. There is a slot size on walleye on this lake I politely mentioned. He said it was okay to keep them if you lived on the lake. Then my patience was gone in an instant. Asked him politely to release the fish, and he did while swearing. Was not sure what to do next, so just kept fishing.

Longer story, much, much longer but I won't bore you. Here is a picture of the fish I kept. Continued fishing at the back of the boat with no fish finding toy and my two favourite not expensive fishing rods. I will never fish with him again. I don't swear often but I did last night. I warned my friend never go out fishing with this guy. He felt entitled to say the least. The two crappie were 12 and just over 12 inches. Didn't measure the walleye, 26-27ish. Stay safe.

Have to say this, we were out there for hours. Really tried to be nice and assist him. He just would not listen, so continued fishing by my self at the back of the boat.

This was the moon last night around 8pm. Beautiful night, got chilly and a bit of fog with almost no wind.

Half of the joy of fishing is the company. That just plain sucks.

Ok maybe not… you say half the joy is the company …. Maybe you’re right, but the company I choose is often no-one. This way I don’t have to put up with situations like Crapeeman did. My time on the water is among my favourite, most relaxing, peaceful time I spend - and sometimes when you’re with someone else(very dependant on who it is) it can become more of a babysitting mission or a frustrating experience.

Sorry to hear about the boat trip Crapeeman, maybe if you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the dock. (Joking of course)

Thank you Woodfarmer, fishing with a friend or alone is always enjoyable like Sunday night was. Last night was just weird. At least there was an upside to everything. All the walleye and crappie ended up on my line but one. The family was happy to see the big walleye and crappie for dinner.

Thanks Drew. You are right about fishing solo. Fishing alone and at night will always be my preference. But sometimes a friend is nice too.That guy actually is one of the big dogs. All that money, and toys did not bring him happiness though. He didn't even know how to get that bass boat up on plane safely. He should go back to his big house, and leave the fishing to us. LOL.

Wanted to fish and see the eclipse tonight from the water. But had to get back home to do some family stuff. Be back up there next week sometime.

I think Drew is correct. To be safe and not feel you have to be on guard all the time while fishing, fish by yourself.
It's harder than you think to find a fishing buddy that you can relax around, especially when things are slow etc, etc..
If you have a good fishing buddy, cherish him or her, theyr are rare.

Personally, I fish alone about 95% of the time, as my family isn't into it,sadly and all my old fishing buddies took up 'golf'...now that's crazy.

Crappeeeman, a golf course will likely NOT welcome a guy like that either.
Can you imagine playing a round of golf with that guy...wow! He could well end up in the bushes with a 5 iron rammed up....oh, never mind.
Braggards are never fun to be around.....and for a very good reason. I had a neighbour like that.
I had to (verbally) put him in his place, and, once he knew I wouldn't take to his 'out of line comments', he was fine.
Shockingly, he eventually turned into a good neighbour.

I like your approach to fishing...less is more. perfect.

Whether he's driving, golfing, working, fishing or could you imagine being a restaurant server for a guy like this! Sounds like you handled it like the class act you are and now you know not to aquaintance yourself with him again. At least the fishing was good!

PS. I do live on the lake and I didn't know I could keep what I want outside regulations! (what a grease ball).

Glad you’re back out and on the fish again! I try to keep a distance from most people these days, I’ve got no time for bs. At least you know who not to fish with now and you can enjoy out fishing him for years to come!
