Well folks.. I finally made it out for some fishing this year.
This is a late report, but I hit a few rivers after Trout Opener this spring.
Overall the rivers I fished, were very very low and clear and pools I had success in the past, were completely empty of fish since I could clearly see bottom and water was down at least 2 feet from normal spring levels. I found some fish in the deeper pools, mostly hiding under log jams and over-hanging trees. Spawn in natural colours, beads and pinkies were all successful. Finesse was the key and carefully working the pools to entice the bite. Fish spooked quickly in these conditions, but I did manage to land a few nice steelhead. It was great to get out and dust off my gear, and yes, first time in many many years, my gear actually had dust on it.. LOL.. Family and work has taken some of my free time away, but it's worth it -- and soon I should be back out there more regularly.
Hope everyone is having a great summer!
Cheers & happy fishing..
