Ya that’s what we use too, I’ve only ever used mackerel to be honest. Maybe I’ll have to get a little more adventurous this year. They really do hit like freight trains, I’m looking forward to getting out there!

Like many species the hot bait changes, but my bro-in-law shore fishes the Avon, Gaspereau, St Croix and Summerville beach area and consistently lands good fish on mackerel or, you guessed it, hot dogs.
Throw the bait, place the rod, set the drag, crack a beer and wait.

Schoolies is what we call them in NS. Pei i believe reg is 19" to keep. We can only keep 27" and bigger. They dont fight like a 6lb smallie but they are fun to catch for sure!

PEI is a slot. 19.5”-25”. All the big breeders have to go back. I agree on the comment about Small Mouth. The Stripers hit super hard but don’t fight as hard as a Smallie pound for pound.
