You will see fish all day long.

also as mentioned , do a lot of the work for him and I would think a 1/2 day there is plenty to start with.

It's about the kids not you when introducing them to the sport.

Some of my earliest memories are of fishing herring with a pearl dropper at white shoal. We would fill baskets of them. My son who is four has been out with me on several trips since he was two. Now we live beside the lake, and everyday he makes me drive to the end of the road to see if the lake is frozen. I even took him out several times jigging Lakers this summer. He is so excited to go fishing this year in the "Ice house". (i really think he's more excited than me.LOL) Like others have said, just make the day all about him, and when he says its time to go, go. Make it enjoyable for him. It will create memories that will last a lifetime..
