I have been searching for a Tekota 800LC for about 6 months now and impossible to find so I bought a Okuma 453. Two weeks later low and behold, I went into one of my favourite fishing stores where I am dealing for a Ulterra trolling motor. I came across a 700 Tekota LC. I snapped it up and ordered a 800 LC. The bad news is that Tekota estimates that they are not making any more 800LC’s for a year….. eta for the 800 is 2023.

Nice reels for sure! I bought a Tekota 500LC reel like 6 or 7 years ago from Bass Pro Shops here in Vaughan, and to this day it has been sitting in my basement, never used yet:-)

Tx James.....These reels are beasts and used a lot on charters for Salmon....mine will be used on Lake Ontario in the Spring and Georgian Bay near Cedar point/Gin Islands come June.

Nice reels. Did they fix the drag on newer Tekotas? I have an older 500 and its a clicking machine.

As luck would have it....when I was out looking for a new trolling motor this week I walked into a store and there sitting there was two Tekota 800LC reels at last years price as they had been sitting that long in the store. Damn things are like hens teeth......scooped one and called a friend that was looking for one as well. That completes the reels I need for salmon.

OK......CENTERSPIN...... I see where the drag issue came from. Salmon charter Captain Mark Kulak posted in a thread and on utube that he fished with a buddies Tekota and they were like night and day so he bought kits for all his Tekota 600s, 700s and 800s.
Swapped out the carbon factory washers for the carbon washers in the kit and that made the difference. I sent a message to Mark and he confirmed that. Awesome guy....awesome fisherman.....Thank you Mark Kulak. I will try a few salmon and see if I want to swap my washers out.

Yesterday I was at Aiken rod and Reel repair on Novar Drive in Cooksville/Mississauga. He has the washer kits and does the fix on the Tekota washers.
