Looking for an easier option with versatility compared to body and engine to get back to summer fishing. Was looking at a pelican getaway 110 hd2, as an entry looking for any info or opinion.

That's more of a rec kayak I guess. Or a pelican catch 120? I'm sure Google can answer all my questions and review but prefer real time experience feedback. Entry level cost effective..lol get what you pay for right.
Thanks Mike

i'm not in a position to talk about the specific models but i feel bad seeing an unanswered question on this forum and i definitely do not like for any forum member to feel neglected

so i guess hello, greetings and congrats on willing to give a kayak fishing a try!

if you are looking for more generic opinions, you can read my 2c of thoughts below:

if you are looking to get started and not sure how / if you will really like it, a Pelican is a decent enough kayak to start with. it would make sens to start with something smaller and cheaper which you can later customize / enhance if you feel like is almost enough for what you need but not quite there. portability might be key in this case.

with more money you can get into more premium brands, search the net for best 12ft fishing kayak and you are good for 2 weeks of reading not all the brands are available in canada so options may be limited but if you search hard, you can find feelfree at MEC as an example.

if you already know for a fact that you intend to grow this hobby into something more towards pro, might be worth to invest into something more like it right from the start. that is only for you to know.

i know that we, as people, mostly want to have the latest & greatest, and end up making the mistake on doing soooo much research on what is the best, but the fact remains (in fishing as well as any other activity) that the man (or woman) is more important then the tool. don't spend too much time researching (i know i did ) Get something decent and get out there and fish. you can customize it later (6 month winter is enough time just for that) or get a new kayak at some point, but the time spent in front of the laptop instead of fishing you will never get to recover that.

i think that if you do a poll, every member here will tell you that his kayak is very good and pretty much everyone will be using a different brand/model

You may want to consider looking at the used market for your first kayak. It will be cheaper and the seller may have already done some customizing.
Good luck with your search

It is hard to suggest unless you we know where you plan to fish and what for. For instance....I wanted the versatility to fish big and small water so I purchased a used Hobie 14 ft PA....still expensive at 3,000 but it is a very stable kayak that holds up to 600 lbs, and this is my first kayak.

That brings me to your weight....it is a consideration depending also on the weight of your gear. For fishing a sit on top kayak is more suitable rather than an enclosed kayak.

If you want to be able to stand width is a thing to look at and will it support a casting bar.

Do you plan to install electronics....there again weight and where. I am not sure on how serious you are going to get. Myself for instance got very serious and my kayak can be viewed under the heading of Bought the trolling motor. I will post the link here. Look through the thread of it and through the other kayak threads and that will spur answers and also more questions.

https://www.lakesimcoeoutdoors.com/forums/i...showtopic=46788

Read lots before you buy and know what you want to do with it. Many are here to answer any questions you may have. Can always message people as well if you have questions regarding their kayak.

I am still working out the final product of my fishing kayak.....have to move my seat onto some sliding tracks to distribute the weight towards the back offsetting the trolling motor.

Good luck to you and remember read and ask questions. There is a lot of good info in the kayak section itself.

Xiaolu is also a wealth of information....a serious kayak fisherman with a lot of experience. He is also a very helpful person.
