So Thursday my boss asks if I'm busy Saturday. When I said "no", he asked if I was interested in going salmon fishing on Lake Ontario in his boat. How could I say no to that. We were on the water out of Bluffers by 5:30 and downrigging by 6. It took a while to get the first one, but when I did, it would end up being my first ever Coho salmon. 4 Chinook salmon rounded out our day. It was certainly a workout, with one pulling over 400' of line, but it was a great morning. The Coho was my 79th Ontario species.

Seventy nine species in Ontario. What do you think number eighty will be? What is left on you bucket list?
I'm hoping #80 will be a brassy minnow next weekend, but we'll see. As for the bucket list, I'm planning a fall trip north to try again for lake sturgeon and sauger. Living as close to Simcoe as I do, it's a bit odd that I still need burbot, whitefish and cisco, but I've never really tried for them yet. The closest I got was losing a cisco at the hole while ice fishing a few years ago.

Now you’re hooked. Pun intended.
I also just took two friends out their first time ever. They each got a mid teen Chinook for their first. Sure puts a smile on the face of the captain watching first timers get their first King.

I can help you on the whitefish and Cisco part if you’re ever up Haliburton way.
