My son was free on Thursday so he and I went to check out a small Muskoka lake that we had never fished. The plan was to check out the small creek the led into the lake and, if possible, paddle to it. I had some concerns, based on aerial photographs, that the creek might not be navigable but, as it turned out, my fears were groundless. The paddle was straightforward and the creek, although shallow was quite easily negotiated.

We caught 20+ fish or so, mainly on a popper and a spinnerbait. Despite the cold front that moved in the previous night, the fish were quite active and were often caught 10-20 feet offshore and not holding tight to cover. Most fish were non-keepers but the four that we did keep weighed about 1.5-2 lb.

Beautiful weather, lots of fish, and a great day out with my kiddo!

always good to get out with family, and have a good day. I'm assuming they are brook trout but I can't tell from the picture.

Nice report and nice looking canoe whats the weight on the canoe is it easily portaged or is it heavy.

This is an old kevlar canoe made by the long defunct Guelph company, Rockwood Outfitters. The canoe weights 57 pounds, is very easy to carry, and handles really well in the water.

Over the past two years, the canoe has been fully restored. The gunwales were replaced in 2022 and, in 2023, I refinished the hull.

Maybe you should tell everybody the lake name so they can go and thin out those small bass and provide food for the rest to grow. Just saying!
