Just built my first smitty sled for under my Otter sled.

Got to the reuse store to find some skis. Turned it to be 50% off today, lucky me. $15.00 for skis.

Someone else posted a while back on a Smitty Sled using ABS pipe. I thought lite and stron so I went to Home Depot and picked up the required ABS for what I thought would be the least amount of material needed. $39.12 for the ABS and fittings.

Total $54.12.

What do you think?

Nice going. Might get to build one this year. If not, for next year for sure
How did you mount the abs piping to the skii's?

I used the front binding mount holes for the front pipe. Just a ABS cap drilled through and mounted using the same bolt that came out of the bindings. Used some washers to make sure the mounting bolts spread out the stress points. I then glued in the ABS tubing to the ABS caps. For the back the same process but I made some new holes as the back original mounting holes were to far apart.

No need to buy ski's.. Call the ski shops in the area they always have old ski's and most times they are free.......

Looks like you could go pretty fast with those skis.

Nice work looks good.
I'll be making one this season was going to build one same shape almost outta wood and aluminum . I saw a tub a few days ago for sale and thought of the same idea and wondered how it would work. Thanks for the post

Still up in the air on how I want to build it. Mine needs to be able to get into a car.

That slips into the car easily and I've added a strip of grip tape on each cross member so I no longer have to strap it down. All in I'm about 30 bucks. I don't mind the weight of the wood on these seasons with glare ice because I pull it apart and weigh down my skirt with it. I do like the abs plastic idea and might modify my next hut to be similar once I go to a two man.

Sorry bud, by grip tape do you mean a piece of velcro or something else? Does this work on a hill?

Thank you.
