Well I took my boat in on thursday as I have been getting check engine light and loss of power when it is on. Left for Ottawa on Friday and came back yesterday.
Neighbor was waiting for me over the fence when he saw I was home, so figured something was up, he is the mechanic at the marina. Computer gone in engine, just a matter of time it won't start at all. $3 000 to fix and parts are on back order expecting to be a year or more.
So went to marine shop this morning to discuss options. This is the second ECM that has gone in 12 years. Options to order part and wait costing 3000 or buy new motor for 17K. I use my boat about twice a week on average. So not having it for a year wasn't appealing but neither was 17K.
So decided on a new engine, so going from a 2012 E tec to a new Merc both 90hp. So the price of fish just jumped way up, considering I bought the boat motor and trailer for just a bit more then that.

That's owning a boat for you, the brain that is the touchpad for my bass boat went this spring. Parts are almost non existent for a 14 year old 120k bass boat?! Anyway keeping my old Ranger turned out to be the best financial decision I've made in a while, and people said I was crazy to have 2 bass boats!.
