Dry suit

I am thinking of purchasing a dry suit for spring and fall kayak fishing .
Does anyone use one ? If so , which model/ manufacturer did you choose and why?

I see the Survival suits (floater suits) would these be a better choice than the
Dry suits ?

I use a Level 6 splash top tucked into cabelas waders with a wading belt. But not a dry true dry suit. Dry suits have gaskets at neck, wrists, ankles and waist and are more technical and more bucks.
I use a mustang floater one piece suit on the ice but not on my kayak.
I also only kayak into October to waterfowl hunt and water is not that cold.
Colder water can hurt you faster and better gear and preparation required.

You wear a waders on kayak? And the waders is the out-most layer on your body (your top is tucked INTO the wader)? I mean if for any reason your kayak flips/you fall into water, does water get into the waders? If yes, I am not sure how you can get out of the water (when the inside of your waders is filled up with water)? Or perhaps the top (opening) of your waders is more or less sort of "sealed off" (water won't come in)?

James you’re right that waders are a huge risk if they fill with water. I took a tumble in the Credit River once and was swept downstream with waders full of water. My wading belt pulled tight acts like a gasket. This setup is for waterfowl hunting in very shallow water where I could probably stand up but get stuck in the muck. If i was on big water like you on Simcoe I’d be in a proper dry suit.

I have a level 6 dry suit, 2 piece. I got it in the winter a few years ago as it was on sale. I got it for $490 + tax. I wear it only early on in the season when the water is cold. Usually my March / April, potentially early May trips.

I like it but at the same time you still sweat in them. I wore it one year in early October Seadooing on Simcoe and bailed. I was pretty much bone dry getting back onto the seadoo.

They work but are $$$. If you want to best got with the 1 piece but be prepared to spend close to $1000.

2 piece as much cheaper, work almost just as well. My pants were a large and my top was a medium. Make sure you use the measurement charts if ordering online and you can try it on.

Dont wear wader in a kayak. That is flat out dangerous in water deeper than 3 to 4 ft.
