I was at a property in Midhurst. I was listening to turkeys gobble as the sun came up, and shortly later I thought I had seen one coming out of the forest. To my surprise it wasn’t a turkey, but a good sized black bear! It was looking for the gobbling turkeys at first. It hung out for about 10 minutes. It sniffed around turkey dusting areas and had a good scratch on a pine tree.

Scary thing is that I normally sit around where I had seen the bear, and go out in the dark…yikes!

Be bear wise!

that can add a whole new meaning to turkey hunting. That would be unsettling for sure.

Yesterday, I got on 400 Northbound at Mt. St. Louis and about 300 yards ahead, a good sized bear ran across the road, going in an Easterly direction.

Yes, it was unsettling! There go my carefree naps at the base of a tree. It was foolish of me to think they were not that far south.

They are further south than that. Had one walk up on me in the predawn while turkey hunting Rathburne forest 169/46 area a number of years ago. We became aware of each other about 20 yards apart. Was shocking how quiet a large bear is walking, have heard chipmucks make more noise. As it turned out no real drama occurred. A few harsh F' off and the bear ran into the woods without a second thought.

Black bears visit our trailer park regularly in Waubaushene just North of there. Here is one on my front lawn checking me out after I whistled at him. After that he went up a tree to eat some berries growing on a vine in the tree. The next day he came back for breakfast again.
