rule #1-The bigger the boat, the less likely i will wear a PFD. Of course if it's windy and wavy out, rule #1 does not apply.

For myself, it depends on the boat size and the waterbody......eg.....at my cottage I rarely wear on......14 footer with an 8 hp I never stand when fishing always sitting

certainly not advocating what others should do as it makes sense to wear the pfd

I certainly do when on the Niagara river, or at least a floater jacket cause that's dangerous water

I never leave the shore without a PFD in the boat. The only change is, now I put it on as per the new regs.
If you run into problems, most scenarios don't allow for time to put your PDF on, so it makes sense.
Safe boating,

Totally against making it mandatory to wear a life jacket. It should be up to me to do it if I want too, not big government. I get requiring them to be in the boat, but in now way should it be mandatory to force people to wear them.

As long as inflatable counts I'd be ok with mandatory wearing. But normal lifejackets are bulky, hot and uncomfortable to wear for a full day on water. I sweat like a pig in a sauna on hot days, no way I'd wear a full jacket all day long in a boat during summer. If they will class moving as being under power of a trolling motor, so if you fish shorelines or cover lots fo water the law will require wearing a full vest all day long. No thank you.

People just need to use their head. Big water, cold water, I'll wear a full floater (we don't go out in rough conditions). But a calm day mid-summer with a buddy in the boat? I'll play the odds b/c the risk is quite low in such a situation.

I'm all for mandatory PFD on anyone under 19. I wear mine all the time. full PFD in the shoulder months and inflatable in the heat. Just remember inflatable only counts when you are wearing it.
