Saturday marks the opening day of bass season on Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair River and the Detroit River, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday in its weekly fishing report. A recent cold front did slow the bite, but good fishing should return later this month, the department said.
Saginaw Bay: It seems the walleye were suspended over deep water where it was much more difficult to target them. Off Linwood, the better fishing was in 17 feet of water. Walleye were caught between the Kawkawlin and Saginaw River. Decent fishing was reported around the Spark Plug and to the east in 20 feet of water and Buoys 1 and 2 in 30 feet of water. Crawler harnesses with silver backs worked best. At Quanicassee, walleye anglers did best in the morning. Fish were caught in shallow waters off Callahan and Finn Roads in 7 feet of water. Others were fishing deeper in 15 feet of water along the edge of the Slot off Thomas Road and the edge of the Coryeon Reef. Bass were hitting on spinner baits. Walleye were caught straight out from Sebewaing in the early morning.
