Thx for posting. I was planning to make a couple up over the next few days. You've given me some new ideas. e.g. the multiple holes. I suggest you add a cross piece, though, so it won't tip easily. Can be attached with an eye bolt so it 'folds' for easier carrying.

Is that legal? I thought I read on here last year that you can't use an automatic hook set contraption. I could be wrong. I don't ice fish but I'm curious.

Also from the regs----
•Possess a spring gaff, snagger or spear gun within 30 m(98 ft.) of any waters. A spring gaff includes any device which uses a mechanical spring, other than the fishing rod under tension, to set the hook for an angler No person shall take fish with a gaff, snare, snagger or spear gun. A gaff, other than a spring gaff, may be used to assist in landing fish caught by lawful means. [COLOR=red]

LOL,
i have the wood for the fold out legs, but it seemed pretty sturdy, was gonna see what happens.
I also have a bell to attach and the slip bobber as well.
The key words in the regulations are "spring loaded device" this is legal as it uses the natural action of the rod...just like a down rigger.
I thought about the need to add more swivels but with the correct angle and the multiple holes I can get the tension I want forsure.
i plan to use it to dead stick artificial minnows for lakers or whiteys. Will also work with my ultra light.
The line runs through a slip bobber between the first and 2nd eye and out of the end of the eye and over the little "V" in the trigger. The trigger is pulled down, raises the bobber and releases the eye and "BOING!" You can set the bobber lower or higher depending on how long you want the fish to play with yer bait.

Guys they are definitely legal. Yes spring gaffs are illegal, but these are not spring gaffs. There is no spring at all, it is the bent rod that is 'springing'. The regs clearly state ' a fishing rod under tension' is NOT considered a spring device'. Also, search around the other various forums and you'll see quite the info in this, including a letter from an MNR enforcement officer saying they are legal. Versions of slammer/jaw jacker etc that do possess some type of spring are illegal, this one and similar ones do not have a spring and only put the rod itself in tension, and they are definitely legal.
