Headed out at 6:30 today. Decided to try some spots I hadn't been to this year. Wanted to get some whities first thing and then go Laker hunting. Got the pop up and spreaders ready, with in two minutes I have my first visitor. Came up to top minnow sniffed and left. This when on pretty much non stop for 20 minutes. Pulled up one spreader and down goes jigging rap, nothing and fish disappear. Stop jigging and a couple of minutes the fish are back but not hitting the spreader so down goes the vibrado fish disappear again. Play this game for an hour. Decide to move and the scenario repeats its self at the next spot and the spot after that and the spot after that... you get the idea. Finally with time running out I head back to my usual area. It is so nice out I can actually set up a spreader outside. Not marking anything as I send down the Lindy darter. Second little jig and there's weight. Do what I always do Throw the rod away and start hand bombing. Don't no why I do this but I can't seem to help myself. To this day I have never landed a whitefish using a rod. Lost the fish half way up. But that's okay because ones rises of the bottom and hits the hook on the spreader this one makes it to the ice. Get spreader ready and send back down. Fish is there watching it, no sooner to I have the stick in the tip up and it tilts back, second fish on ice just before I have to leave.
Great way to end the Simcoe season.
By the way ,I moved 7 times drilled 3 holes each time and the Ion was still showing no signs of slowing down. Love that thing.
