Walleyes are hitting live-bait rigs or spinners and crawlers in 20 to 25 feet of water along the south shore. Saugers are being caught slightly deeper, and anglers trolling crankbaits with downriggers are catching more walleyes and saugers. Live bait is the best option at the Northwest Angle, where walleyes, smallmouth bass and northern pike are hitting around the islands in 20 feet or deeper. The islands on the north side of the lake are giving up a few muskies as well. On the Rainy River, upstream areas closer to International Falls, are providing decent walleye action in 12 to 15 feet of water.
