Anybody doing any fishing out of Collingwood or the mouth of the Nottawasaga for Salmon. Any results?
Fish are usually in the area by this time of year.
May give it a try this week if weather and wind are right.

Fished off wasaga this morning. Should have stayed home east wind .....

Marked quite a few fish tight to bottom in around 80 feet unable to confirm what they were because we didn't get any but I'd speculate that some of the arcs were salmon and bows.

Found it strange that we didn't mark anything off the mouth of the nott in 20 -30 feet last year and the year before this time of year the fish were stacked there waiting.

Fished out from the mouth of the Nottawasaga today. Nice SW wind, but like 12 ft, I should have stayed home.
Trolled for 6 hours and washed about 20 different lures.
Fished high, fished low, long leads, short leads, flashers, no flashers.
No hits, no runs no errors.
Marked all kinds of fish everywhere in the water column from 10ft to 100ft.
Same for bait pods, everywhere in the water column.
Nice day to be out, only 2 other boats, but frustrating.
Didn't see anyone with fish.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck SDC. Thank-you for the report. Hopefully action will pick up in the bay with the cooler nights.

My oldest boy was out with his wife on Tuesday night from Collingwood. Trolled briefly eastward when the better half developed an eerie green skin hue from the wave activity. Water temps were the same from the surface to 80 feet down but he managed a mid-teen chinook which he dredged from 100 feet of water. Headed in immediately to avoid the full onslaught of mal de mer that threatened his lady.

I was out yesterday (Wednesday) with my "first mate" and another couple for an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon/evening on the Bay.

The forecast winds did not materialize leaving just a very gentle and lazy roll from earlier in the day. We visited the Maple Dawn wreck off the north west end of the island and were amazed at how well it has stood up since it's sinking in 1924. Boilers and engine are only a few feet below the surface with excellent water clarity. We left the wreck and trolled slowly south in a lazy zig-zag between 95 and 145 fow. Went 3 for 8 with fairly consistent marks between 70 and 90 feet. Most productive areas were over water that ranged from 125 to 135 feet deep. Ran two riggers, a wire dipsey and a full core off the planer board. Didn't put down the probe as marks were consistent as to depth. Lead core never moved but, uncharacteristically, the dipsey took the last three hits once I let it down 250 feet on a 1 and 1/2 setting. Rest came on watermelon NK's set at 83 and 95 feet. Nothing over ten pounds but healthy looking, chunky salmon. Black dipsey with a magnum black and purple Nasty Boy. Our guests caught on nicely after dropping some early fish. Pulled the plug a bit early as the ladies were a bit concerned about the pending darkness.

Curse you Jim with all your experience always lighting it up out there...

I have one question for you if you would be so kind to answer. What speeds are you finding to be most productive out there.

I've got 3 weekends of georgian bay derby fishing coming up and things might get ugly if I don't get a salmon or 2 LOL. Time to start thinking really far out of the box?

Krawler's the guy that's been lighting it up.
I've always trolled a little more slowly on Georgian Bay than on other salmon waters, especially in the low light periods at each end of the day. Generally run at 2.1 or 2.2 m.p.h. (GPS), dropping a few tenths from that at the beginning and end of the day. We run NK's with Silver Fox free sliders and Lymans. Salmon appear to be on the increase despite major cutbacks in stocking from both sides of the pond. Definitely more robust appearance to the salmon as well. Only downside I've noticed is that the lampreys are more numerous as well.

Well 12 Foot - your curse was very effective! Had our first skunk of the season last night. My darlin' first mate managed to brush by the flag marking a net while I was at the back of the boat so we did have a little excitement. No harm done in the end. No excuse either as it was very well marked. Actually we only left ourselves an hour of trolling after an extended BBQ supper on board.
40 minutes of our trolling time showed the clearest screen imaginable but my son and Jack from this board had some salmon south of us. Hopefully the weather will allow for a few serious outings this coming week.

The curse lives on for me.... Trolled six hours saturday off Vails point nothing tried a few different setups leadcore SWR didn't matter. Dad had the one of the old faithfuls down all morning nothing for him either. Couple other boats saw very limited sucess. Seems the best action last week is down in Owen sound or around the other side in Meaford or Thornbury.

Decided to try the river instead sunday morning..... Going down the road 5:30 am whats that terrible noise... Stop blown tire.... limp it down the road to my fishing partners brothers place, run home get his truck throw the boat in the back and off we go an hour late. No love in the river either casted for about 2 hours. The water was pretty dirty though from that rain.

Salmon spectacular this weekend hopefully my luck turns around....

Well 12 foot - My weekend was almost as bad as yours. My friend came up from Kingston on Friday. He landed 2 jacks that night marked a few fish after dark. Saturday we launched out of Meaford marked lots of fish in the dark then they just disappeared as the sun came up. Ended the morning with 1 Brown Trout 6 1/2 lbs. Saturday Evening launched north of Owen sound didn't mark much I ended up catching a small whitefish on a cheater line. Sunday we launched again same area as the night before; moving south we found fish in 160 fow but my friend could see all the boats in Thompsons hole and figured there must be fish there. Past 2 large schools of feeding salmon and before we even made Balmy Beach the boats were splitting up and heading down East and West side back to the Harbour. Other boats were passing us heading the way we just came. With no fish on the finder my friend said lets pull and head to Vails. He had a small Whitefish on his flasher. Up at vails we tried for 2 hours no luck a few fish marked. When we decided to pull for the day again on his flasher was a 5lb laker not sure how long it had been there (seemed almost drowned). We did try Meaford that night marked a fair bit of fish but no takers using bait rigs. OH WELL better than a day of work.
See how the derby goes.
