QUOTE (Longshank @ May 21, 2014 - 08:53 am)
There are many superstitions I learned in past few decadeds.

Last......sunflower seeds......husks etc, clogs up bilge pumps..........that one has happened to me twice

if this is true i'm due for a clog soon. I don't travel without sunflower seeds. they are EVERY WHERE in my boat.

I had 6 guys on the boa and it rained off and on that day. 2 bilge pumps are out of sight down by engine compartment and another up front.

Thoe husks clogged both pumps after about 4 hrs and we began listing a bit to one side. I then checked everything and had to dismatle one and sure enough, it ws jammed full of those nasty husks.

just heads up 6 guys can spit a pound an hour

On Sat.,Sun.and Mon. I went fishing on Simcoe and each day I brought home enough Jumbo Perch for a fish dinner for the wife and I. Each day I had a banana in the boat as part of my snack. Was Yummy!
Today I decided not to bring a banana with me and I got skunked.
I will go back to bringing bananas as part of my eats.

It's an old legend.

It was not so much the big ships that had this issue but the smaller boats that ran island to island the guys would over load them (you have to remember the more they carried the more they could sell). thus being overloaded cause many to capsize but the part of the spiders was the other for sure thing. Think of it you have to load and unload the boat by hand (lots of chance to be bitten) and while on the sea either awake or asleep no room to move when a spider comes along.

Yes I have taken Bananas on the boat and always will.

either you can catch active fish or you can't that's fishing.

tight lines

Gord

It's all B/S imo . loll Me and dad brought 6 of them on board last weekend . Had our best day on the water for Bass(Kawartha's) . Total of 32 Large mouth . 6 Smallies and one Pike around 26 inches . A few rock bass in between along with many missed hook sets .

When fish are on the feed.... I doubt a Banana will stop them from eating . loll besides don't we all bring on board ...

I'll give you one guess what is recommended by at least some of the Caribbean resorts as a fish attractant for snorkelers searching shallow reefs for colourful species to photograph. Like most things offered on this thread, this may be due to the fact that bananas have a secondary quality beyond being a true fish attractant. Bananas don't become a sodden mass of starch like bread but the fish in the Caribbean certainly don't swim away in a frantic search for shelter. They appear to be very fond of this fruit.

I came across the post on bananas and had to respond. We had Pete and Angelo from Fishin Canada here on Lake Weslemkoon last September to film a show (called the Great Race on their website). Anyways, they were still in the driveway with the boat on the trailer, and sitting in the boat rigging their rods getting ready to go out. Their regular camera man could not come with them, so they brought a guy named Rick out to do the filming. Rick is usually part of the office team, so I am assuming this was his first venture out on the boat with them. Just before the guys were ready to launch Rick went back into the cottage and came out peeling a banana. Pete and Angelo went ballistic! It was too funny, we didnt know what the heck they were on about, but they told their guy Rick in no uncertain terms to get rid of that ###@@@ banana NOW! They then told us that bananas on the boat were bad luck and that it would jinx their fishing. Anyway, they went out the first day and filmed.........when they came back in Rick said his hat blew off while in the boat and he lost it....Angelo said see....banana!!!! So, even the pros seem to believe in that superstition.
